Shop guide for beginners Empty
PostSubject: Shop guide for beginners   Shop guide for beginners EmptyWed Apr 16, 2014 7:04 am

So you recently started playing Cosmic Break. You open the shop window and you're overwhelmed with all the possible choices. What do you buy? What do you do??

Well, fear not! This guide's purpose making this time-consuming process slightly easier by recommending bot cores and weapons to buy.

These recommendations take the following into consideration.

  • Affordability - Beginners frequently have trouble earning UC, so we have to take their budget into consideration.
  • Ease of tuning - Many of the older bots do need a lot of tunes to function adequately. Same goes with some of the older weaponry. This is another "barrier to entry" for beginners. If bots have high base stats, it requires less tuning to be usable in arena and thus is more accessible for newcomers
  • Performance - This is the reason certain bots / weapons are considered even though they either cost RT or a large sum of UC

You typically have to balance between affordability and ease of tuning (the cheaper cores usually have poorer stats so you have to make the difference up through tuning). Good thing there’s vanilla tunes!

What are vanilla tunes???

These are tunes that give +1 to one of the following stats: STR, TEC, WLK, FLY, TGH.
While they are usually not the most efficient tunes, they are 100% guaranteed to succeed no matter what slot you are tuning. Said tunes also require very little mats.
Here’s an example involving the Boost Tune.

Shop guide for beginners CQvbLg0
Boost only requires a single Hidora Cosmos and 5 Turbo Chargers.

Shop guide for beginners 7WeKCxS
Towards the the bottom right hand corner of the tuning screen, you can see how your stats would change after the tune is successful.

Shop guide for beginners XNVMEWZ
There’s no chance for failure when it comes to vanilla tunes.

Shop guide for beginners VPklmzk

When I say final cost, I’m assuming you are taking all capacity carts.
Free cost refers to the capacity (after taking all the capa carts) that’s to be used for extra carts, parts, tunes, etc.
Obviously the actual numbers will be different if you only take six capa carts rather seven in order to fit an extra cart.

S size – low HP pool; smaller hitbox; faster turn-speed (S size LGs > M size LGs > L size LGs)
M size – middle HP pool; access to S, M, and L size parts and weaponry
L size – high HP pool; (usually) bigger hitbox; access to LL weaponry

A major selling point of Cosmic Break is its level of customization.
You are encouraged to mix and match parts from other bots. This applies mostly to mecha, however, since a lot of human robots have locked parts – as in, you can’t swap parts out. There are also some mecha with locked parts, so it’s really on a case-to-case basis.
The amount of locked parts for each robot also varies. Some, as said earlier, have no locked parts; some have some locked parts, like the arms or head or legs; some are completely locked.

As such, we’re basically judging by cores. The robots under the special mentions category, however, either occupy a niche or are typically bought because of their parts. This leads to their cores being ignored.
Lancerlot is often bought for Lancerlot AM2, for example, and his core is left junked. He is, however, a decent enough core.

LAND – Usually a gunner, a melee, or a hybrid. Typically relies on Sway, hopping (Short Boost + Quick land; for more information, click on http://www.cosmicbreakfanforum.com/t10735-an-overly-long-and-completely-worthless-guide-to-land-hoppers), and/or Boost Run.

I'm guessing this isn't done yet? I don't get why some things are "Special mentions" why not just list them with the others? It'd be nice to make some kind of list of recommended "higher tier" bots

It's 6.35 am. I got tired while finishing the LND section. Hence the WIP thing on the bottom.

I might rearrange the Special Mentions. Was thinking that bots under that category either offered a silly niche or were being bought for parts and not for the core (usually; I mean you could use the Lancerlot you bought for his K-shield as a L gunner if you were trying to not waste RT, I guess).

Well, it'd be a really short list if I focus exclusively on higher tier bots. Also a bit boring. But I'll add an abridged list for those people who want to cut the crap and get into the good stuff.

Also not sure if I should keep with the final cost and free capa section under every entry. The new fellas might not get it and it's assuming that every capa cart is being taken.

Tune ups have a certain chance of succeeding, however tunes that only give +1 to a stat will always succeed. Very useful for newcomers.

Good guide, also you should remember that:
1)Zero Saber DO have a UC variant too.
2)Newbies will get some of said bots as rank reward IIRC at rank 15 now newbies get Accel Saber and Bugsy (full deal, no slotless crap tongue )

1) Zero Saber DOES NOT have UC variants, Zero Saber Girl does

2) Even with Saggi, Accel Saber, or Bugsycait as free deals, it's not enough with what they are trying to do because of lacking experiences and lacking part swaps.

1)*Checks*Yes you are right, guess i was thinking about other CBs(one can only wonder how comes this guy didn't get a UC variant tongue)

2)True that, but still having'em as freebies means you won't have to buy'em(UC or else) and that IS handy*considering newbies are usually short on pretty much everything* Smile

Good points, all.

I should probably mention part swapping and bots with locked parts.

I'll do a little section of vanilla tunes since they really do help out.

For now I need to motivate myself to get out of bed and go to class, though!

Get used to the game first. Ex tunes shouldn't be something you become dependent on.
In fact they break the game, it could be said.

Real talk, though, you're gaining free HP with no drawbacks (outside of the preparation of said tunes due to elements and lowered success rate). EX-tunes are broken.

I don't think it's a bad idea to skip ex-tuning in a beginner guide. Practicing how to survive with lower hp might be more helpful for players later on.

I agree with both "ziix" and "Relict?"

Ex tunes ARE broken as hell, since they allow "S" sizes to have ungodly HP(someone remembers pre-Nerf Erisu with 600+hp?*shudders*, since in this game armor/TGH have been considerably nerfed the only reason for picking a "L" bot would be to have more HP since you expect your dodging to suck(see under "mighty glacier" ), while you'd pick "S" expecting to be a "fragile speedster" &/or "glass cannon"...while using ex tunes on your lil'"S" (and let's remember that means small hitbox)you'll be a broken "lightning bruiser"...and that send balance even more out of the window.

tldr: IMHO Ex tunes are broken, C$ should have NEVER have added'em in. tongue

P.S:Yeah i know L can abuse'em too, but it's easier to just remove'em Laughing

Yeah a lot of things these days hits harder.

Remember 40 TGH buridens?
I'm sure ARTs these days will still stun 'em.

IxionsagaDT wrote:

Froglander has only 430 free capacity. I don't know about that. I really think Pawnger, although more expensive in terms of final cost, does its job better.

Same deal with Beezle and Sword Wing.

I really did want to include Hatigarm Machine. He was my babe back when I made AyeKayBee. But imo, he doesn't really work these unless you get a Lala + Rone combo. Beginners would try to rush with him and probably just die since he'll be undertuned. I just have doubts.

Thanks. Still a work in progress since I'm trying to be thorough and since I made it, like, yesterday.

Also fucked up formatting. Will have to adjust when I get up in the morning.
