| BoyTitan is correct, SOPA is nearly dead.
HOWEVER, THERE IS STILL A DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE.
Now there's a new bill called PIPA out and about that they're trying to use, which has Senate backing and is being passed off as a "jobs" bill, etc. etc. That alone makes this much more dangerous and much more likely to actually work than SOPA. PIPA isn't as extreme, but will still heavily nuke the internet if it is allowed to pass.
So, there is a huge call-in session to congress being organized. The http://americancensorship.org site has been updated with instructions on how you can call, so if anyone is interested in this at all, here you go.
There's also another petition website up trying to get this stupid bill taken down: http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-the-internet-control-bill-now. If there are any others like this out there that you can find, please post them so we can sign up for them too. The more, the better.

| BT your logic is questionable/circular.
Also, there's loads of logical reasons why people might need to pirate...
I lost my TS3 disk when we moved, but still had the Ambitions disk. I let EA patch my game after a while because I'd put it off because it would take forever, and lo and behold, now there's a problem with it when there wasn't one before. Now I need to uninstall and reinstall, but I don't have my TS3 disk. Time to find a pirate, amiright? And it's not like it would be bad, as I already paid for the original game, and I don't want to pay another $40. I just lost the disk.
@SL the Piro - What's this new bill about? =w= Just the same stuff reworded?

Essentially, yes. This was the depiction of it as said in one of the e-mails I got: "Since the House's "SOPA" has such a bad name (yes, you did that) lobbyists are moving their weight behind the Senate version, PIPA ("The PROTECT IP Act"). The Senate's censorship bill is just as bad; it's only missing a few of SOPA's extra-crazy provisions, like the ones that could send you to jail for singing a pop song on YouTube. The website blocking provisions are all there. Still, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid thinks that with the attention on SOPA, he can sneak PIPA through quickly when Congress returns."

You do realize that it's a logistical impossibility to calculate the amount of lost revenue due to pirating, right? At least, not without knowing how it will be pirated (and if you know how it will be pirated, then it's easier to just block off that avenue of approach). It follows like this: You can't figure out how it will be pirated, because you've done everything you can to prevent it from being pirated. As far as you are aware of, there is no possible way to pirate the item. However, you have no idea what a _smarter_ person would do; this follows the standards that gave Alan Turing the advantage over the Nazi Enigma, and has proven (so far) indisputable.

Honestly, I don't really care. People(especially teenagers) find ways to break the law all the time, this will be no different. Not to mention the extreme amount of resources needed to monitor EVERY ISP, I doubt it could be enforced with any regularity. American government is generally among the shittiest on the planet, but then again all humanity is shit, so it doesn't surprise me. For once, BT is somewhat correct on this, although his logic needs work... And if it does pass, hope them ISPs enjoy watching porn because 1 out of every 2-3 comps have that shit on hard drive or downloading.

Doesn't matter whether they're spying on my comp or shoving their heads up my ass to look for bombs, just explain why I care. Don't forget what I said about people finding ways around/through the law, as well as its enforcement...

| I've censored the following, in protest of a bill that gives any corporation and the US government the power to censor the internet--a bill that could pass THIS WEEK. To see the uncensored text, and to stop internet censorship, visit: http://americancensorship.org/posts/8006/uncensor
████ to ████, ██████ and █████: ████ is ███████ █████ on ████ ████████. I'm █████ my ████ by █████████ the ████ (█████), █████ ████ ████████ ████ as an ███████. ████ is ███████████ ████ we ████ to ████ ███████ to if ████ ██████, and I don't ████ it.
Do ████ ████. ██████ the ████, e-████ (or ████) ████████ if you can, do ████████ you can do to ██████ ████ ██████████ ████ ████ █████████.
This is amusing. The general gist of it: SOPA is being voted for on Thursday, people are organizing a massive call-in and e-mail-flood in an attempt to wipe the bill from existence. This is probably your last chance to join the fight, or at the very least to spread the word to those who are willing to join the fight.
...And this is hopefully the last time I'll have to post something about this. I'm sure you're all getting sick of it too.
