| Install Wine, and Winetricks, Using winetricks install Directx9.
Add and configure as follows: in the cosmicbreak_eng folder add CosmicBreak.exe, and in the "programs" folder add "cosmic.exe" set them both to run under windows 2000.
as far as I know, that gets you to the black screen.

| cedega is a paid service. I would rather have my way around Wine. Also, the game itself must be verified on Cedga's Game List. if it can run on Wine, it can run on cedga.
Please see part D for further information from Cedga http://www.cedega.com/support/about-cedega/

| Darn, I knew from the quotes there would be some catch. I thought I would be able to stay in my ubunu partion to play this. As far as the black screen, could it be that the drivers you are using in linux are generic, vs the closed source manufacture driver? | |

| What I did, was,
Install DirectX 9.0c using winetricks
Install
It would update, and run. Thing is, it gets to black screen, and it goes non responsive. |

| I'm pretty sure I have that directX, but the installer still won't even start. -_-
I'll try redownloading it tomorrow, the internet WAS acting up last night.

| That's weird, mine's working fine. I just installed it on a winows OS and I'm running it through a USB where I copied the program folder to. I didn't do any of the steps here. I just ran the program with wine 1.2.2 and it worked. =/ I do get issues with the text though, from time to time. And I'm not sure how to fix it. | |

as far as I know, that gets you to the black screen. Honestly idk are u useing a nvidia graphics card. I am running cb on a dual boot system windows is broke due to a software/hardware issue so I am useing linux now. Anyways cb is one of the few games I can play on wine and it runs perfectly. Dual core cpu only reason I am useing it is cause I need to update my bios to use my quad core which can only be done in windows which is broke. 4 gigs of ram. Geforce 560 ti latest update. Wine runs it 100% I am useing wine 1.5 the older version had a glitch were the sound would go out in cb and updated the drivers useing the newest nvidia drivers cause CB would freeze with older drivers. Anyways if u want wine to work you need a nvidia card period. BTW useing ubuntu 12.04 Since I originally installed cb on windows I am going to say just install wine on a dual boot system then put it on linux via usb and copy paste =D.

| Oh also setting Wine to run in Windows 9x mode also helps.
so here's how I got it working:
1.Run in Windows first 2.make sure a Java runtime is installed in linux 3.configure wine to run in Windows 95 or 98 mode 4. make sure wine sound is configured (using ALSA or other) 5. Install d3dx9 through winetricks

| You don't need to install java, the game ships with its own java. | |

| You can also use playonlinux (http://www.playonlinux.com/en/) which is a wrapper around wine. It lets you create independent virtual drives with dozens of wine versions available. | |
