what is the best Antivirus to use nowdays

THE VIRUS believe it or not in all the past topics i read on this forums i never actually encountered that word especially that we use computers to communicate and play as for viruses we know the story some evil unknown programer who create all kind of viruses which can begin with corrupting your cosmic break client and ending with killing your computer completely they come in all kinds and flavors to suit tastes.

but wait some smart guy will pop up and say use Antivirus duh.

and here is the fun fact have you imagined that some antiviruses can have similar effects of some viruses on your computer?

the answer is simple some Antiviruses are simply system resources hogger which is equivalent to Trojans and the final conclusion is they slow your computer down

next you will ask me what are you trying to get at?
i will tell you i have discovered that some Antiviruses are responsible for the lag we encounter while playing CB
how is that ? some Antiviruses without mentioning names start sudden back ground scans if that happens you experience
FPS lag and sometimes they connect randomly to the internet to download updates which case connection lag be aware that both can happen in the same time while playing and that slow your computer and the game even more

i am pretty sure that some people here have experienced some serious hassle when they try to choose the best security software for their machines which is why i ask for recommendations and opinions assuming that most people her have average computers what is the best one for me to pick? and in the same time don`t have expensive licensing requirements

I myself use Malwarebytes (free version) and it works well enough. It doesn't tie down resources, as the free version doesn't actively scan for viruses nonstop, and requires you to manually click the update button (so no updating randomly and causing you to lag to death). I find it works very well, even though I'm not the type that usually gets many viruses.

I use Avast, though a version they had awhile back kept spamming me with !!!UPGRADE NOW!!! messages several times a day, which had me contemplating rather heavily to switch to Avira. Now it seems you can get a year of free registration at a crack without it hounding you to get the paid version though, so I'm feeling better about it now.

I got Viper, its good and its a one time buy for a lifetime subscription

what about AVG is it any good ? i have heard that it became better

I have a free version of Norton provided by Comcast.
Had it for some time now, I never get viruses. Ever.
If I have one then it must be an infant.
I don't know what "good" antivirus is. This works well enough for me soo...I don't really care.

Avast for free, NOD32 for paid.

If I remember correctly, Mcafee is quite reliable too.

AVG and Norton are beyond useless.

If Norton is useless then I'm extremely careful by nature.
That or I just don't run into risks or major threats, ever.
I've never had anything get past my version of Norton.

My laptop came with a trial version of Kaspersky when I first got it but I never used it.

MSE but I use Avast atm(some conflict on custom driver that can't be exempted).

AVG and Norton are horrible.

Both of 'em spam your computer to its death.

It's really not that hard to be virus-free with or without an AV, it really depends on what you do with your PC, who has access to your PC, where you browse to and what/whose disk/device you shove into your pc.

I currently use Panda Cloud Antivirus.

It's probably not the best, but it works.

what is the best regarding internet usage ? i have heard that some versions of Norton is highly demanding because of frequent data base updates

Microsoft Security Essentials!
It's free and well, I've only had this laptop for about 2 years and using MSE hasn't given me any problems.

Oh, that makes sense then.

I don't think you'll ever catch a virus as long as you stay away from weird private/hentai sharing/password sharing sites. Oh and of course you don't download pirated software from people you don't know. That's just like saying "please hack me".

All cases of infections I've heard of so far, came from porn sites ._.

its so sad how norton has fallen back when they were symentech or what ever the hell it was called for windows xp they were great the hell happened.

Mcafee sucks ass also.

I use Panda Clod Antivirus , with Mozilla FireFox + WOT (Web of Trust) + NoScript + Public Fox.

WOT - Block any bad website like ads pop-up and etc....
I often use it before going any website.

NoScript - Another good stuff blocking any annoying JavaScript , Java , ads and other plugins.
I have use it start from 2006.

Public Fox - set it "*" (block all download) with lock password.

Kaspersky. I don't have a choice. >_>

Kaspersky's actually pretty good antivirus program.
Kaspersky 2012 received 8/10 score from Maximum PC review.

I have my Firewall turned off for connection reasons.
I leave AVG turned on, and then use Glary Utilities and Malwarebytes for manual scans.
