No country in this world has created a metal that can block a high powered missile from an F-22 yet.
Nor has any country created beam rifles. The closest thing is the railgun but it is like a house long.
So Gundams would basically just be giant robots piloted by humans in a cockpit that carry giant railguns and have useless metal armor.
I think I would much rather have a railgun battleship like the one they showed in freaking transformers.

We had laser projects idk how there going. STARWARS stands for the us laser defense system against missiles.

But ya mechs are useless we wana figure how to put laser on fighter jets not giant metal targets.

After we build mechs we learn to shrink them to infinite stratos size

If they're making actual Gundams, with the same degree of power as they're depicted with, I'd figure them more of a stepping stone. In the end though it's just a publicity stunt. There's few reasons that it'd be put onto a "Gundam" compared to being mounted on a plane or such.

Although a mech like that would be cool though, getting the same flexibility and speed would be out of our reach at the moment I'd believe.

I understand Master Chiefs are basically impossible without some serious human right violations, but Halo ODST seems legit.
It's basically power armor that lets people jump from like 10 story buildings, land on helicopters and survive so well they can even jump into the helicopter and hijack it.
Or like Gears of war or War Hammer 40k armor.

Give me 10 Ultramarines over 1 giant 60 ft tall mecha any day.
Unless the government manages to build super shields/alloys like the ones they show on Gundam that can block a freaking close range rpg or a seeking missile.

Orbital drop shock armor oh I will rush over to the army if they ever get this.

The ODST armor is a self pressurized bodysuit covered with highly durable alloy plates made up of metals like titanium.
You might think of it more as realistic Ironman armor but without the giant glowing heat/energy shooters.
The bodysuit works to absorb the force that comes into contact with it so it deals much less damage to the wearer.
It has it's own personal ventilation, heat regulators and the helmet is kind of like a titanium motorcycle helmet with a built in computer display.
