Find the old riddle Google has failed me >_<. It was used in flint the time detective a anime I watched as a kid which frequently had riddles used. And used as a reference to vashes brother Knives being bad for killing the butterfly. Photographic memory ftw. | |

I'd have to say neither of them are wrong in the situation, but they weren't right either. If X was aware of Z's intent to save both, Z would be in the wrong not because of the killing of the spider, but by doing something knowing it'd upset the other. If he wasn't aware of Z's intentions to save both, then it's neithers fault.

X is a kinder person. He saved the butterfly from harm, and wishing the well being of others is a noble trait. But his wish to see them both live is a bit childish, as all things will sooner or later die (the butterfly would even become trapped in another web after they walked away, even).
Z was rash, because there were other alternatives to prevent the spider from reaching the butterfly, such as blocking her way, or cutting the webs between both. Also, his starvation idea was valid, but he forgot that the spider still had a fighting chance to look (or in this case, wait) for food. He couldn't even see if the spider was that hungry in the first place. By killing the spider outright, he denied the spider the chance to fight.
Both X and Z had right and wrong arguments on their sides. Just like everyone else, because we can't always learn everything about a given aspect due to our limited lives and to our limited chances to learn. That's why a community must stick together and share its opinions and ideas with everyone, so that all actions can contribute to a better future, both for them and for the world they live in.
And i'd like to add something regarding Astral_Goddess' opinion as well: - Spoiler:
I agree with your ideal. Competition is just that: there is a better player, and a worse player (draws can exist though, but very rarely). But take heart, because defeats are not negative, it's we who make it so with our bitterness.
