Anime Convention Cosplay

Who does this sort of thing? Well I'm interested.

Here's my story.

I'm planning go to an Anime Convention called "Animania" this year 2012 in Sydney, Australia. People usually go there to take photos of people cosplaying, cosplay themselves, buy anime related loot, watch anime, and do all sorts of anime related stuff. I've never actually cosplayed before so, I have no idea what character I should cosplay as, given that puberty made me too manly for wearing maid outfit, and trap related stuff. As much as I want to go back to living my trap days and go kawaii overload, I can't pull it off, I'm just not as innocent and naive as I used to be which means that cosplaying Hideyoshi and Jikun Hu are out of question.

I've considered "Disgaea 3 - Male Fighter", Cloud Strife, Zack Fair but I don't have no abs and CosmicBreak characters costumes are too complex for me to make (Not to mention, the majority of them are girls and bots). I was thinking of a male Ouka cosplay, but I don't know how to make the armour so it's back to square one. Well I guess, I could get a cardboard box cut some holes in it, draw boosters and write "GUNDAM" on the front side of it or just wear casual clothes, and hold a sign saying "Main Character".

That's it, so what about you guys?

I do attend this kind of events, but I don't really cosplay...since I don't know how to

Its fun to see which TF2 character will appear at the event, and free coffee is always nice.

Not to mention my body is not as feminine as it used to be. It got ruined by puberty.

I cosplayed as Holo last year, and I'll most likely do the same this year too.
I didn't really act like her last year though, but this year I'll do my best to be witty and sly

Screw that, get some kinky spandex and then use duct tape and cosplay as Manly Jikun.

Edit: The University campus I live on does have the japanese residents run around in cosplay once in a while. I sometimes go out at this time in cosplay but nobody recognizes rouche xd

I've been to a number of anime conventions(my 1st was Anime Weekend Atlanta in 2001, just weeks after 9/11...the party went on as scheduled), most recently, the 1st edition of Anime Blast Chattanooga, and while I've never cos-played, it's ALWAYS fun seeing what people can come up with!



Taken at Dunedin's 1st anime con in 2010, I and my teammate(dressed as Asuka) have just won the anime quiz competition after it went to the tie-breaker question...of COURSE I'm gonna take a bow!

For the record, the tie-breaker question was 'How many Pokemon are in the national Pokedex?'; the other team(far left of pic) guessed around 510....

...for a moment, I actually had to think about this, as I certainly wasn't expecting the question, then I glanced into the crowd and saw my(then) fiance, who took the pic, practically about to shake her way out of the seat in a combination of excitement and 'if you miss this, you DIE' intensity...of course, she knew it, and after a moment, I got a smug 'and that's the ballgame' smile on my face and simply said '493'(at the time, the actual #).

The hosts looked at their answer sheet, both went white in the face, looked back at me, and said 'You win.'

One of my few moments of glory, heh.
