| Subject: Leaving CB; it was nice knowing you. Wed Jan 26, 2011 12:28 am | |
| If you want to know why, you can find out here: http://www.cosmicbreak.com/commu/?m=pc&a=page_c_topic_detail&target_c_commu_topic_id=2465 EDIT: Actually, let me attach a copy here in case they delete it. You'll miss out on the images, but here is the text: - Spoiler:
When I joined in OB2, I knew this game had potential, and it still does: it's an unbelievably fun competitive game, and there aren't a lot of games like it, particularly on the PC or near the same scale of 30v30 combat. It's a jewel in the rough, if you will, and by Final Beta I already knew that all it needed was the caring hands of CS to properly tailor it to the American audience.
Frankly, they dropped it, and they dropped it hard. No advertisement, no events, no GM interaction-- everything that could have kept this game where it was was no more. The love was gone, and in its place was the great nip shaft that is Garapon sans a trade/Gift/Bazaar system behind it.
I am not new to the plan that is Free-to-Play. I have played others before and will play more in the future, and I have no apprehension when it comes to paying for them when I know I'll get what I want from it. The problem here is, paying in CB is both exorbitantly expensive (even for F2P standards) AND gives you no guarantee that you will get what you pay for.
Outright, I will not at any point and time support a pricing structure that hurts me, the consumer. What train of thought does it take to believe that a large percentage of the userbase would want to willingly gamble for something that, 90% of the time, will result in completely lost money? If there is no assured benefit, big or small, the answer is no.
Now, If there was a trade system that I could use to recoup my losses from a bad roll? Maybe we'd have a deal. As it is now, with 12 bucks for 5 rolls ON SALE PRICES, "BECAUSE FUCK IF WE WOULD EVER CHARGE THIS 'LITTLE' ON NORMAL DAYS"? No, CS; that is the definition of a rip-off and I have no intention of taking it up the to satisfy your greed.
Of course, as you can see, I was too attached to quit when I saw the prices and instead chose to make do with what was free. Becoming a UC player... it was a rude awakening, to say the least. I was formerly an Air specialist, and deep down I can still say that, had I ever been given a competitive Air bot, I would have used it. Sadly, UC-only means you get two builds if you want to stay on the competitive edge, and none of them are Wide Beam. You get Jikun, you get hopper, and if you're feeling adventurous?: Jikun hopper.
THAT'S ALL YOU GET. You don't get an equivalent Air (No, Wide Beam/Limited Plasma Seraph is not equivalent), you don't get anything but a free Winbell from the Support department, and God help you if you think Artillery is in any shape or form competitive. As for Bugsy, the best bot you can afford with your 35 free Rt? He's a hopper too, too bad, so sad, it cannot be helped, deal with it.
I soon realized that I could no longer be what I desired without paying up, but I was stubborn, said "fuck it" and learned Land; and as a now more-than-competent hopper, I can tell you two things: 1), that I fucking hate playing a hopper, and 2), that I respect hoppers far more than I do the excessive Rt buyers that are supporting such an unreasonable pricing structure.
It's not about having a job and a house, or about being able to afford throwing hundreds of dollars away: the bottom line is that only the fiscally incompetent would support such things. You are encouraging bad behavior. Does CS need money? Yeah, every company does, but that is no excuse to quite literally throw your money into the dicking machine with no expectation of return (minus the aforementioned dicking).
I look down upon, to immense magnitudes, those that have committed the sin of fiscal stupidity under the veil of "I care about CS, so they deserve my money." If they really deserved it, you would have spoken with your wallet and not have bought a damn thing; and if they, for reasons inexplicable, didn't at that time change prices to stay alive, then perhaps they deserved to die all along. However, that's not what happened; NOPE. NOPE NOPE NOPE. You herped and you derped and you fell right into their fucking scam. Good work, soldier.
So, where does this all leave us? We have the hoppers, the Rt buyers, and then the third party that is the incompetent newbies. Sadly, that very party comprises approximately 70% of the current userbase, which leaves the remainder to play the metagame that is "Who can farm the terribles faster in a team battle?"
Quite honestly, that is not a game I want to play any more. More than anything else, even more than Rt buyers, I hate with the greatest of fiery passions losing because my team consisted of a higher number of incompetent nitwits that fed the enemy. I, HATE, INCOMPETENCE.
There is a saying where I come from, that people inversely gauge their expertise in certain fields; that is, that those that claim they are the best are often unskilled, while those that actually are the best are instead modest and may sometimes undervalue their gift. A month ago, I fell into the latter section, but as time passed and I was exposed to prolonged lackluster performance on the part of Shuffle participants and barren BRD vs. rooms, that modesty transformed into rage, which fueled my inevitable demise. And this thread.
I don't want to play this any more. I don't want to be a hopper, I don't want to farm terribles, I don't want to pay money just to have a playstyle become viable, and I don't want to support a company that deserves nothing more than what it already has.
This is a trainwreck! How did this happen!? This isn't what America wanted; you completely lost touch with us and now subsist solely on the foolishness of a minority that lays thousands at your feet to warm your meat.
...The only things I will miss are the moe moe mecha musume.
TL;DR: I am frustrated, and I'm leaving.
I won't name names. If you knew me, you knew. It's a lengthy list and almost everyone here was on it. Just know that you'll all be in my thoughts and I'll still skim the forums for a few more weeks, until I get bored of it. Thanks for everything. I'll see you when our paths cross once more.

| Leave CB for WoW? Nope.jpg Its not worth it. You need to donate more to Cyberstep. Then they'll give you a bonus for being such a generous person. They didn't have to give you a RT charge option. It would of been just a big donate button. Nothing won. Nothing loss. But they gave you RT as an option. And even more RT whenever you donate a larger amount at a time. | |
