| Windows 10 is the devil.
Also, Microsoft added the keylogging / snooping software to 7 and 8. If you don't know what you're doing, Microsoft and the government surely will.

| I disabled updates years ago so it doesn't affect me at all. Plus if you want it for games there's next to no improvements in performance. | |

Not any more. This... http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/33648-spybot_anti-beacon shuts it down entirely. Problem is there aren't any real power user controls, it's all or nothing.

Wait, what? There's a keylogger inside Windows 7?

| Apparently.
What's confirmed is that they can track your browser's history. Someone said with surprise that MS sent him an email listing the browsing history of his child because he didn't notice that was a feature including with the OS.

| I'd stick with a selectively updated 7 (like, read up on which KB updates to skip,) until either 2020 or until someone makes a clean install of Win10 with the spyware and automatic updating removed.
BTW, you can't disable automatic updates in Win10. Anything you do to it, they can undo. Any program you use to retake your privacy, they have a legal right in the license agreement to disable that program. It's total bullshit.

I'd agree with you, but client side logging is always an issue whether you know about it or not. You're going to have to bite the bullet at some point and realize that if anyone wants your data, it's not going to be hard to get for anyone with a degree of sophistication. And honestly? I don't do jack shit on my Windows partition anyway, and I'd recommend nobody else does either. If I want to do something nasty, I'll do it on a Linux liveCD distro and then smash the thumbdrive and drop it in a parking lot trashcan. They're just collecting user data for commercial purposes, same as everyone else is. You walk into a mall, guess what? Your IMEI is going to be tracked so they can sell advertising space. You buying airplane tickets online? Enjoy being run through the no-fly list on every booking site you visit. We live in a digital age, and you're never going to avoid surveillance. I mean, shit, they've literally learned to implant radiotechnology in larvae so they can pilot the adult beetles like drones. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3100638/ Unless you want to move into a hut somewhere in the rockies, you're never going to be able to escape that kind of scrutiny, and even then chances are you're still going to be visible if someone wants to look for you. There's no point in catastrophizing selectively, and quite frankly I'm glad W10 was so damn blatant about it. The devil you know, ne'st ce pas? Honestly, you'll be fine. Windows 10 is a solid OS, and I doubt one more person selling your data to LeadsPlease is going to matter. I mean, have you seen that start menu? Holy shit, that is some sexy fucking spyware.

| Privacy always matters. If my neighbor saw me naked, once, through a window that I forgot to close, I certainly wouldn't give up on wearing clothes and prance around town jiggling my balls within public view.
There will be clean releases of Windows 10, just not from Microsoft.

It's a lovely sentiment, don't get me wrong, but the words "I want privacy" mean "I have something to hide" as far as anyone with real power is concerned. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to toss my hat in the ring for privacy and freedom and whatnot, but making the transition to whitehatting was probably the best thing I ever did. Privacy is just a buzzword these days. The dream's dead, boss.

Honestly, we're all little more than ants to the powers that be. The world stage is set for World War II to be refought, and is very possibly in its endgame already. One key difference is that America has a real chance of being on the side of the Axis in the event war breaks out again. Seriously, Trump's campaign rhetoric seems to be causing all of the skinheads in the US to start crawling out of the woodwork, and their brethren abroad already have a significant effect on European politics.

| A lot of drivers and programs may not have adapted to Windows 10, so there might be some compatibility issues. Windows 10 also has this thing where people in your network can see your browsing history even if you're in incognito or delete it. So basically the parents of kids running Windows 10 can see all the naughty things they've been doing even if they try to cover it up | |

Make sure to have automatic updates turned off if compatibility issues are something you're concerned about. Windows 10 will download and forcibly install itself onto your computer if automatic updates are turned on.
