Tune it with shell drain or slow.

Shell Drain is because if they ever get away (STOVL, Full Boost), you'll give them something to remember you by.

Slow will make it harder for them to even get away. Period.

You didn't even catch him midair. Shit is weak.

That said, yes, Short Boost should be damn compulsory on vanguards... except maybe Lancer, never played him so I wouldn't know, though being able to hop over obstacles/onto higher ground should be enough reason to take it.

In terms of which vanguard needs it most I'd say axer > lancer > fencer. Huge part of the reason of taking it on axer (and to a lesser extent lancer) is because his air combo's better than his ground combo in the first place. The opposite's true of fencer, who has his combo slowed down when airborne.

if you get a bunch of their team into a restricted area (think near those boxes on plague swamp) and just constantly hop and do your combo you'll rack up a shitload of points. if this one wasn't my first game w/ shortboost it'd be a lot higher rofl

Short boost on Lancer makes it easier for him to catch airs, but it doesn't change the fact his tracking is too shit to even catch airs, period.

(It might have been changed though. The last time I've used a Lancer was how-many-months-ago.)

This topic is of some interest to me, because I just got a Lancer. It seems like Short Boost with the Lancer enables me to pick AIR's out of the sky (especially now that I've given it Quick Jump), and the stun rate drops them pretty quickly. I had one ohmygawdthatwascool moment in a match on Green Field, where there was a float-dashing Crimrose that got into the wind thing, and I jumped into it less than a second later, catching up with her and then using the range on the lance to stunlock. After that I put a bunch of hits into her while we were falling downward, eventually destroying her a couple of feet off the ground. It was a wicked coup-de-grace that I don't think I could have repeated if I tried.

Yes lets tune a status effect on a three-hit combo and join Dango while we're at it.

Only tunes I'd do on Axer (if any), is something like 2x High Glad, after hearing Suguri suggest it.
