If the opportunity came along to enhance your body through Prosthetic or Cybernetic augmentations (enhanced learning capability, stronger legs/hands/body)
would you do it?
try to keep it somewhat serious I'm kinda curious on how many people would actually do it or are against it.
List of augmentations that I could think of being possible
- Leg Augmentations ( speed, power, running distance) - Hand/arm (dexterity, power) - Body in general (the amount of punishment it can take, say something that would normally kill somebody instantly, instead you live with only a few bruises, maybe a few broken bones) - Eye Sight (improved eye-sight, ability to zoom, cure to blindness) - Learning Capability (weather it be studying, learning languages etc) - Overall efficiency in the way the body handles things (weather it be multi-tasking, speed of doing chores, jobs etc) - Hearing (editable hearing so you can 'mute' your surroundings when you don't want to hear, can also cure deaf people..) - Social Analyzers (the ability to know how a person is feeling so you can react accordingly) - Immunity to diseases/organ failure >more will be added if I think of more<

Depends on
Price
How thoroughly the procedures have been researched and practiced; I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig when they're trying it for the first time.
Possible downsides

Hell yeah, I loved Shadowrun. Who wouldn't want titanium bone lacing or a hidden gun inside their forearm. Once they figure out the human brain a bit more, maybe we'll even have a direct neural interface to computers. (I mean, other than moving a cursor with your mind.. something like an ethernet or firewire cable interface.. I think USB would be a bit dangerous.)

Possible downsides
- Price wasn't really a factor hence why I said if the opportunity presented itself
- The augs in question have been heavily tested beforehand and have been known to work, and this is the first time that they are releasing them to public use.
- Only known downside is you're bodies natural rejection. (If connected directly up to the human body, there is always a chance the human body will deem it foreign and attack it..)

not really of the same vein, just stuff to improve general quality of life, so nothing like hidden machine guns, blades. etc.

First two people who actually said No....
would you be
- Strongly Against It? ( Deem that person Unpure, Not human etc)
- Fine With It (You wouldn't mind if somebody you knew personally/was close too, got one of these augs)
- Neither Against or For (You'd just see them as people who could do things slightly better)

I've already mentioned my side in IRC, but since you added general body augmentations, I guess I'll add that to my wishlist along with brain implants. I mean, not needing sleep would be awesome (e.g. sleeping would just be a nice pastime). It would probably double the risk when done in tandem with brain implants, but I'd take it. FOR SCIENCE!

I wouldn't want it because I don't need it. If I lose my legs, sight, or hearing, then I wouldn't have a problem getting augmentations.

I like my girls natural, with no make up or augmentations.

Augmenting my body? The only augmentation I need is a reduction in my goddamn body fat content.
...Other than that, nothing. I'm fine with my body as is.

Modifications to my body? I like it as it is. If I lose anything, then it's still my body and I'd rather have it as it was made and is made than to have something foreign put in it.

Perhaps a pair of optical cameras, complete with night vision and infrared vision enhancement [a transparent layer over what you'd usually see as opposed to completely switching sight modes].
I'd pass on everything else though.

Perfect. I feel the exact same way. My body is fine as it is, I wouldn't need any enhancements unless I've been forcefully deprived of one of my normal functions.

Interesting responses people, so far nobody here is strongly against it but their morals are against it...
at least you won't like...protest or hate people who do get these augmentations. (at the risk of starting a debate, I'd call this 'Christian radicalism')

Yeah, I wouldn't protest or descriminate them. As long as it's for rehabilitation or prostetics, but if people wanna do it for physical dominance and superiority, it's another story. The line that distingueshes what is deemed taboo and what is not is very, very ... fine.

While on my way to check email [order confirmation for ordering college textbooks for cheap, lol], I stumbled across this interesting video that shows off what's on the cutting edge in prosthetics/replacements for people today.
I'll post the same warning here though, there's a couple quick shots of surgery in action if you prefer not to look at such things.

What I really want is nano-augmentation so i wont have to worry about cancer and other debilitating illnesses.
Eternal youth would be great too, but if that's not possible ,a youthful appearance even at old age.

Prosthetic? Cybernetic?
Sounds like amputation. No want.
