I don't think this is a gameplay update, pretty sure it's just there for cosmetics. The current "Event" medal gives you red sparkles, in the future there may be event medals that give other cosmetic effects. The thing here is that you can turn these on and off and collect them and etc. You can track progress of your bots as well, it feels like an achievement system of sorts to track how much you play a unit and what they've done. idk in a few months you can look at a pure gunner bot and see you got 500 melee damage medal and remember the time you dropped 5 hippos on a base or something, I don't know.

You can also troll with slayer/sword bits

inb4 next update includes unlocking additional slots for medals and special effects for certain combinatons. prepare your wallets guys farao
