Start Up problem. Empty
PostSubject: Start Up problem.   Start Up problem. EmptySat Oct 11, 2014 8:23 pm

So I downloaded the game, updated it and tried to play (first time, never played CB) But all i got was a brief black screen followed by "Stopped working" . after that every time I try to open, the game just crash with no error. Before anything, My drives are up-to-date, I checked it. My specs are more than enough to handle this (2.83 Quad core, 4GB Ram, AMD HD6570 2GB ). Tried Compabilty mode, lowering my screen resolution (1920x1080 native), run as admin, and reinstall 2x.

So.. Any solutions? Neutral

I Google searched the error, as it sounded familiar.. I remember several people having posted this, over the years..

Sadly, I think they all either gave up or never posted back with what actually fixed it for them. None of the topics that I found had any conclusions.. they just left off, with no further replies.

Some things to try that probably won't work, anyway:

Try using the Safe Mode button to start the game. (It's on the updater screen.)

Update Java.

Disable UAC.

Uninstall the game, disable your antivirus and then download/install/update it without an antivirus running.

Try an independent graphics driver set (IE: Omega Drivers.)

Install/update .net framework.

Try sending in a support ticket on the official site.. as well as posting in the official forum, too. The more exposure your issue has, the more likely someone will find it that may know how to defeat that error.

Unfortunally changing to 720p didn't help.
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bits, and, its kinda fresh install ( 1 Month or less. ) every now and then i give quite a maintenance on my PC.

btw Omega didn't make it.

I will try to make a clean install of java.  I know how to clean the registry. my antivirus is AVG everyday it makes a scan, seems fine.

@edit
Reinstalled java after unistalling and cleaning the registry. Sadly didn't solved it.
I guess I will send a support ticket, even so, i think they will not solve it.

Mine works fine even with res 1600x900. Mine is a newly built computer but with old CB installation (copied CB installation folder from my old lappy).
My configuration: CPU AMD Richland quadcore, VGA integrated AMD HD8790D. All drivers are stock driver.
Maybe you should have an OS refreshed and driver newly reinstalled.

I deleted my old CB folder and downloaded and installed the latest version. Can't say the exact thing(pretty close though) happens to me but pretty much the game won't start too. I'm thinking it might have to do with the latest installer in CS' site (or I may be wrong). I'm trying out if the game will start with an old installer that I still have and see if it works from there.

So, i use my old CB installation, but update my AMD video card driver to latest (previously i was using a driver from 2013), and my CB refused to launch. If your problem is the same with me, you may find an error log file in your CB installation folder.
The solution is to downgrade your AMD driver to an older version (latest 2013 maybe, though mine is from august 2013).

Yeah. I screwed myself over when I deleted my old cb folder (it actually was working. I just wanted a fresh install just for the heck of it) and downloaded and installed the latest one from CS' website. So I got the same problem as KhamsinD. I tried using my old CB installer but during the patching process, it would stop at 27% install - 33% progress (Tried this on a different computer and got the same problem and the % where it would stop). So I won't be showing up in CB for a while. In any case, I might as well try your suggestion too.

Dick pointed out something that I hadn't thought of: If CB is crashing, it might also be generating an error.log file.

Try searching C:/Cyberstep for "error" by filename. I forgot which folder it puts it in, but it should be somewhere in there.

Eh, CB gave me the same problem (black screen and makes a error file).
Turns out the anti alias options need to be ticked for it to work.
Fixed it by copying CB from another computer with those options.

Today i coincidently pressed the default setting button in graphics option panel, caused the AA option to be unchecked and then i forgot to check it again. After that, i couldn't launch game client again, ofc.
While feeling like too lazy to roll back my graphics card driver, i found that i can simply roll back my game setting using 2 backed up option files under /program. In the list of option files, there're files with .prev extension, i just had to delete current file and replace them with corresponding .prev files and my old configurations were restored, means that AA is enabled again.
Hope this hint helps.
