As for me, it is one of those nights where I am too tired to cry or sleep. Ceiling-san will help distract me.

Isn't he just working parttime? Maybe he's going to college. This is germany. You dun "go to college" here. You do one of 3 grades of education and then u go studying on a university, given that you got your "abitur" (afaik this is trnslated as University Entrance-Diploma or something). Tere is a way of claiming better grades of education, but most people do these either out of school or at a special school for adults only (and the latter is usually done in the evening). I don't know, he said he couldn't keep a job because the german job market is so pervert :V

Like Rochester institute of technology is at the same academic and recommendation level as the university of Buffalo.

| Ugh I guess I mistranslated it or something. It basically works like this in germany: you go to the elementary school for 4 years, then you go to one of 4 types of schools, according to your skills (social background really lol):
1. Hauptschule: (literally "Main School") is the lowest, a lot of jobs require you to have a higher graduation by law. You'll prolly end-up as a painter, baker or something like this. This is the most common graduation. When I was in school you had to go here for five years (till 9th grade). A lot of subjects are absent or only taught for a single year or such.
2. Realschule: same as the Hauptschule except that you have to attend it for 10 years or such. They've got more intense subjects and blah. I never saw the difference to the lower graduation to be honest - but then again I skipped a lot so maybe I was just there on the wrong days ^^"
3. Gymnasium: this is the graduation that allows you to go to university. You'll be stuck there for 12 years or such, but that's ok because people with lower graduations are supposed to get an apprenticeship right after school (most people look for one or two years ahead actually).
4. Special School: pretty much what it says. Various schools for either people who're mentally ill or behaviourally problematic. You most likely end-up unemployed :C
I've been told that in the states you just go to school till high school and then have the option to go to school for a few more years. I always found it confusing.
Edit: of course 9 (in case of the Hauptscule), 10 and 12 years refers to the total amount of years you go to school. We do not finish school in our 30ies lol

College is university only difference is in the u.s. college is done at different levels for instance there are state colleges, community colleges, and then university's also there are places like institutes. Like Rochester institute of technology is at the same academic and recommendation level as the university of Buffalo. For the dutch it's also similar. There is VWO (aka Atheneum)/Gymnasium (which is basically the same except for the fact that Gymnasium get Greek and Latin classes)/TTO (Which is Atheneum, but in two different languages: dutch and english). These three all take three years of middle school, and three years of High school. After that You can go to a university. The dutch divide universities into Universiteit and Hogeschool. The main difference between the two is that Hogeschool takes more care into practical knowledge and making students ready for whatever job they wanna do. They also require an internship, which is done to make students get field knowledge and experience. Universiteit places a bigger emphasis on theoretic expertise. But both the Hogeschool and the Universiteit are internationally recognized as universities, even though the country puts a difference between the two. Then there's HAVO. HAVO takes three years of middle school and two years of high school. After that you can either do the two final years of VWO if you wanna go to a Universiteit, or go to a Hogeschool. Within the first year of the Hogeschool there's a number of points to be obtained for passing the year, like for example 40 out of 60 points. If you get all sixty, you got your propedeuse. With that you can choose to pass the year, or to go the Universiteit (doing a similar version of the studies you chose to pursue when you started at the Hogeschool) without having the need of getting your VWO certificate. Bellow HAVO and VWO there is VMBO. This is currently the lowest middle/high school level (there used to be a different one though). The VMBO itself is divided into 4 levels, of which I will only state the most important one because having to talk about the others is troublesome. Their highest level is VMBO-T. The T stands for theory. The lower the level, the less theory will be taught in their classes and the more practical stuff will be taught. The lower levels usually become the gardeners, bakers and whatnot. After 4 years of VMBO-T you can chose to do the last 2 high school years of HAVO and get your HAVO certificate, or you can do four years of MBO. MBO teaches the more practical kind of jobs. After MBO you can go work or go study further at a Hogeschool. Even though the dutch educational system has a lot of different levels, it is perfectly possible for individuals to go a level higher; as one would move in a society's socioeconomic bracket. A son of the father of a friend's father made it from the bottom, VMBO, to the top, VWO.
