This is what Cosmic Commander should have been.

From a gameplay standpoint, seems interesting. RPG-like progression in a strategy game isn't exactly something new, but it's nice to have. And from the look of it, you'll be customizing a whole team, not just a single "Hero" in an army of personality-lacking mooks.

From a visual standpoint... I gotta admit, I'm not too into it. The mechs themselves look kinda "meh" for me (better than "Mechwarrior Chickens", though), and the way they move doesn't seem that satisfying. I mean, look at the sword dudes, the way they attack doesn't look like they're actually hitting something, they're just mindlessly waving the sword around. To put is simple, there's no "oomph" in it.

Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that rarely gets tweaked after gameplay footage has been shown. Oh well, the gameplay seems to make up for that.

Game seems to be out on steam for early access but.. yeah you have to pay for it. It's $10 here so I might get it some time in the future

$20 for me rip. Might still get it I'm on the fence.

Game still appears to be in very early stages, I would wait until there are some proper (p)reviews and see if it actually has chances of being finished, unlike many early access games.
