POWER/RANGERS Empty
PostSubject: POWER/RANGERS   POWER/RANGERS EmptyThu Mar 12, 2015 2:14 pm

Check this out guys. An awesome, fan-made short film about what Power Rangers would have been like if the action, seriousness, edginess, and maturity had been taken up a notch.

Sadly, could only find the version that's more adult rated now. The original got taken down from YouTube apparently due to lawsuit bullcrap.

For a fan-made film, this almost looks professional, and the effects are superb! I like how they made classic characters like the rangers, and even Rita Repulsa so much more awesome than in the original too.
My only problem was the lack of any Megazord battles. They could've made that more serious for this film by turning it into one of those Pacific Rim-styled Monster vs Mecha fights.

What do you guys think of it?

I think it was repulsive to me. Because whenever I watched power rangers, I wanna feel like I was a kid who once watched it D:

I watched it days ago.

A+ for the plot twists.

Though there are some plot holes, like why Jason turned evil etc.

But overall I enjoyed it.

Eh, lots of series can be better when made more serious and stuff.

Take Batman for example. He went from being a kid friendly superhero, to a guy who fights a psycho who puts knives in people's mouths and bloodily goes to "Put A Smile On Their Face."

Power Rangers can be like that too.

I didn't really notice that plot hole until you mentioned it.

I've made a comment about this on another forum already, so I guess I'll mostly just go ctrl+c/v on this:

I didn't hate it, and I'm kind of on the fence about seeing it as either a parody of grim-dark adaptations... or if this could be considered a true grim adaptation in itself. I mean, all the staples are there.

- Gratuitous nudity to keep 12 year olds watching? Check.
- Well-known and cherished characters dying for mere shock value that lasts a whole 5 seconds? Check.
- Well-known and cherished characters that are still alive becoming a hot mess up in the head, again for worthless shock value? Check.
- GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNZ!... Check.
- Skull-numbing dumbstep and cringingly-bassy sci-fi sound effects that became dated 1 week after their debut? Check.
- Everything's brown and gray? Check.

Yep, it's all there. The problem is that if the producers didn't specify that it was meant to be a parody of grim-dark, and if someone told me this was a trailer for Michael Bay's Power Rangers, I'd honestly believe it! I dunno if that's the producer's fault... or if the current state of the movie industry is that much in the gutter that THIS is what currently passes off as parody.

As someone already told me, seems Poe's Law is in full effect, here. It gets a "meh" from me.
