I've made a comment about this on another forum already, so I guess I'll mostly just go ctrl+c/v on this:
I didn't hate it, and I'm kind of on the fence about seeing it as either a parody of grim-dark adaptations... or if this could be considered a true grim adaptation in itself. I mean, all the staples are there.
- Gratuitous nudity to keep 12 year olds watching? Check.
- Well-known and cherished characters dying for mere shock value that lasts a whole 5 seconds? Check.
- Well-known and cherished characters that are still alive becoming a hot mess up in the head, again for worthless shock value? Check.
- GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNZ!... Check.
- Skull-numbing dumbstep and cringingly-bassy sci-fi sound effects that became dated 1 week after their debut? Check.
- Everything's brown and gray? Check.
Yep, it's all there. The problem is that if the producers didn't specify that it was meant to be a parody of grim-dark, and if someone told me this was a trailer for Michael Bay's Power Rangers, I'd honestly believe it! I dunno if that's the producer's fault... or if the current state of the movie industry is that much in the gutter that THIS is what currently passes off as parody.
As someone already told me, seems Poe's Law is in full effect, here. It gets a "meh" from me.
